A week with Getty Music in Singapore and fellowship through singing.
Welcome everyone to my blog, I’m very encouraged to have you as a part of my online community.
Over the last week, I was invited by Getty Music to join their world tour called “Sing! World Tour.” It was most inspiring and informative to my own journey as a musician and song-writer.
For those who are not familiar with who they are, Keith and Krysten Getty are Grammy Nominated musicians and modern hymn writers known for touching millions of lives globally with many recognizable songs such as “In Christ Alone” (which Keith co-wrote with Stuart Townsend) amongst so many other amazing albums like “Christ Our Hope In Life and Death”. Keith was also honored as an “Officer of the Order of the British Empire” (OBE) by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Conference Evenings (22nd-23rd June)
The conference itself spanned two evenings at the Adam Road Presbyterian Church, coupled with singing and teaching. Krysten shared with the congregation “The Shape of Worship in the Home and Church”, a topic she was very passionate about from raising 4 children in her home. Here are a few things she said that I’d like to share:
She encouraged us to model it in our church, seeing the older generation sing encourages the young to sing.
It is difficult to find someone who walks close to the Lord and not sing to the Lord. These two things goes hand in hand.
Be a curator of music in your child’s life. Songs shapes us and underscores our lives. We carry certain songs with us through our lives. However, sometimes it is the things that we leaving out that cause the imbalance in our kids.
For those who are interested in singing with your children in your homes, Keith and Krysten has put together a resources they call “Hymn of the Month”. Where each month, they will put forth a hymn for you to use with your families along with a monthly memory verses and other things.
I will leave you with a quote Krysten encouraged us with;
“We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.“ - Madeleine L’Engle
Leader’s Lunch with Keith
On one of the afternoons, I was invited to join Keith and his team for lunch where people from many different parts of the world came together for a chance to discuss and share about the sessions, our ministry, and our stories. It was very encouraging to receive an extended hand from the Keith and Ben Klemme (Associate Professor of Music and Symphony Orchestra Conductor at Wheaton College) to aid song translators in any way they can in reaching more people with songs. It was a great opportunity to get to know new people and network.
Sing! Asia
To round off the week, I received a special treat from the Getty Music to attend their show at “The Star Performing Arts Centre” along side new friends and old ones. The show was, of course, spectacular and most likely the high light of the trip.
This trip I felt that God a plan purpose and a reason for me on this trip, He wanted me to see and hear what Getty Music is doing and experience it. Like I mentioned earlier, I feel like it expanded my scope and understanding in my own passions.
Thank you all for joining me on my first blog, I hope to keep in touch as time moves on. I’ll be sharing a little more soon on other recreational things I did on this trip (get ready for some food and scenery pictures). Please take some time to follow some of the links above and listen to some of their songs for yourself. I hope you are encouraged by this as much as I was.
